Bed and Breakfast Access Statement

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that Allscott Mill B&B Telford offer all our guests/visitors.

Introduction

Situated between the historic town of Shrewsbury and the modern town of Telford Allscott Mill is a perfect place to stay whether you are visiting for business or leisure. Located in a rural location we are a ten minute drive from Junction 7 of the M54 or a 15 minute bus ride from the nearby town Wellington. Allscott Mill is situated on a country road with no pavement.

We offer three bedrooms, two on the first floor and one on the second floor, two with en suite bathrooms and the third with a bathroom of its own. For breakfast, where possible, we use locally sourced ingredients and cater for varying dietary requirements.

Pre-arrival

  • For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the directions section of our website. Alternatively, you can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.transportdirect.info; simply enter your postcode and ours, which is TF6 5EE to get directions.
  • The nearest railway station is Wellington which is 3 miles away. Taxis are available at the station. If you require an accessible taxi this can be booked in advance, see contact information for details.
  • The nearest bus stop is less than 1 mile away from the B&B – ask the driver for the Allscott stop . There is a shelter with 2 seats. All buses can accommodate one wheelchair. The No. 14 bus runs to/from the centre of Wellington. See https://www.telford.gov.uk/downloads/file/3028/14
  • The road leading to the B&B does not have a pavement or street lighting so please proceed with caution.
  • There is ample parking at the mill reached down a driveway of red granite chippings.
  • There are 4 shallow steps up to the front door, straight into the large spacious lounge.
  • The front door is 1500mm/59ins wide.
  • Assistance can be given with luggage.

Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed into the lounge, which is level throughout, where they are asked to register.
  • Seating is available with a choice of leather sofas and upright chairs are available on request.
  • The flooring is hard wood so non-slip footwear is recommended.
  • The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting and wall lights.
  • A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request.
  • Guests are shown the guest lounge, dining room, the orangery and their bedroom.

Bedrooms

  • There are 2 double bedrooms on the first floor; the White Swan Suite and the Kingfisher Room; and the twin bedded Goldfinch Suite on the second floor all reached by stairs only.
  • The door to the bedrooms is approximately 1000mm/36ins wide,
  • The height of all of the beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is a maximum of 889mm/35ins
  • Rooms are bright and evenly lit. Overhead lighting is controlled by a dimmer switch. Bedside lamps are also in each room. An additional reading lamp is available on request.
  • All of our bedrooms offer the following: Lighting as above, good colour contrast between the floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, all bedding is non-feather, flatscreen digital television with remote control, subtitles, and audio description facilities.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (En-suite or Shared)

  • All rooms have their own bathrooms. Door opening to each of the bathrooms is 1000mm/36ins
  • The toilet height is 610mm/24ins
  • The wash basin height is 1000mm/36ins high
  • Well lit with overhead lights and a fluorescent light over the mirror
  • Good colour contrast between the doors, floor, walls and towels. White towels contrast with gray marble walls in the White Swan Suite.
  • The doors to the bathrooms in the other 2 bedrooms are both 1000mm/36ins wide. They both have the same lighting, and flooring as above. However, the shower in the double room bathroom is over the bath.

Public areas – Halls,Stairs and Landings, Corridors

  • All public areas, halls, stairs, landing are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights.
  • There is a short pile carpet on the stairs, hall and landing.
  • There is a handrail on all the stairs.
  • The flight of stairs from the lounge to the first floor starts with one step up to a small landing then a left hand turn up to the first floor.

Public Areas – Lounge

  • The guest lounge is situated on the ground floor with step free/level entry from the front door and the dining room.
  • The room has a mixture of seating with sofas and soft chairs as well as some high chairs, together with a low coffee table.
  • Lighting is natural daylight and light levels are controlled by dimmer switches, with overhead lighting used as well as table lamps around the room.
  • The flooring is short pile carpet.
  • Widescreen digital television with remote control and subtitle facility is available in the lounge.

Public Toilet

  • There is a small unisex toilet, with one sink and hand basin, on the left hand wall of the dining room on the ground floor.
  • The toilet door is 1000mm/36ins wide.
  • There is level entry but no space to the right hand side of the toilet when facing the toilet
  • The toilet height is 710mm/28ins
  • The toilet is well lit with a single fluorescent overhead light

Dining Room

  • The dining room is situated on the ground floor with step free/level entry from the lounge.
  • The door opening to the dining room is 1500mm/48ins wide and it is level throughout.
  • There is also a step free/level entry to the orangery.
  • Lighting is natural daylight and light levels are controlled by dimmer switches, with overhead and wall lighting used as well as table lamps around the room
  • The flooring in the dining room is short pile carpet
  • We are able to cater for varying dietary requirement s. Please advise us when making a booking.
  • Breakfast is served but you can help yourself to fruit juices, cereals and fruit.
  • Crockery is colour contrasted with the table where possible.

The Orangery

  • The orangery is situated on the ground floor with step free/level entry from the dining room.
  • It is furnished with red leather sofas.
  • There is a step down into the garden from the orangery.
  • The orangery is lit be natural light daylight and overhead lighting.

Garden

  • The patio area is surfaced with red granite chippings and can be accessed from the orangery down one step. Tables and chairs are available on the patio.
  • The outside area also includes two mill ponds.
  • The garden area is large and flat with the river Tern running through it.
  • There is a jetty where one can sit and watch the river. with a sloping lawn and flowerbeds
  • There is a red granite chipping driveway around the house.

Additional Information

  • We have a set of evacuation procedures – should you require it someone will come to your room and assist you with evacuation. There is a map of your escape route in each room along with a torch to be used in emergencies.
  • The doorframes are all dark wood which contrast well against the cream walls.
  • The nearest Shopmobility is 8 miles away in the Telford Centre Shopping Centre which provides a variety of shopping experiences all on one level. Disability Scooters and wheelchairs are available for free hire. See Contact Details below.
  • The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS is the Princess Royal Hospital 6 miles away and the nearest Doctor’s Surgery is 4 miles away. Please let us know if you require further information about these.
  • Free WiFi internet access is available

Future Plans

  • We are planning a review of our website later this year to make it more accessible, your comment s are welcome to assist us with this project.
  • We are joining the National Accessible Scheme to gain a rating for those people with limited mobility and hearing and visual impairments.
  • We have asked the local access group to visit our property and we will endeavour to make any suggested accessibility improvements where possible.
