In 1642 King Charles I described the view from Castle Walk in Bridgnorth as 'the finest in my domain'. 'High Town' includes the main shopping street and is perched dramatically on top of one hundred foot sandstone cliffs. 'Low Town' straddles the River Severn.

Visit Daniels Mill, Bridgnorth (WV16 5JL); a fully working water mill grinding corn into wholemeal flour. With the backdrop of the Severn Valley Railway you may think for a moment that you have stepped back to a bygone age. Much Wenlock, birthplace of the Modern Olympic Games

Much Wenlock: approx. 10.6 miles from Allscott Mill B&B/20 minutes drive

Learn about this historic market town and Dr William Penny Brookes, the inspiration for the Modern Olympic Games.

Stay at Allscott Mill B&B in July and you can visit the Wenlock Olympian Games which still take place to this day. Or explore the Wenlock Olympian Trail around the town at any time of year and visit Much Wenlock museum and the remains of Wenlock Priory.

One of the mascots for the 2012 London Olympics is called Wenlock in recognition of Dr Brookes' input.
